What goes wrong most on business cards
- No bleed on a colored background: white slivers along one or more edges.
- Phone numbers or emails near the edge: the check flags any text within 0.125 in (3 mm) of the trim.
- Low-resolution logos: a logo copied from a website often has too few pixels at card size. Use a vector logo or a high-resolution file.
- Unembedded fonts: contact details reflow and can overlap.
Questions
How should front and back be arranged in the PDF?
Usually as a two-page PDF: page 1 is the front and page 2 is the back, both the same size. The check warns if the pages differ in size.
Why is a thin border around the card risky?
Trimming can shift slightly, so a border close to the edge can end up thicker on one side than the other. Keep borders well inside the safe area, or let them run into the bleed.
How small can the text be?
Text below about 7 pt can be hard to read on a card, especially light text on a dark background. The check doesn't measure text size, so review it on a printed proof.
