Privacy
Last updated 2026-09-17. Print Ready Check is operated by Smarter Foundry LLC (“we”, “us”).
Two different things are described below, and it's worth keeping them apart: your files, which stay on your device, and usage information about how the tool is used, which does reach us.
Your files stay in your browser
Processed entirely in your browser. When you choose a PDF, it is read and checked by code running in your browser, and the report is shown on your screen. If you download a fixed PDF, it is created on your device too.
The file's contents are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. They are read by code running on your device and are gone when you close or reload the page. We can't see them, store them or recover them, and no file name, file content, text or image from your file is ever sent to us or to our analytics provider.
Usage information we do collect
We record how the tool is used so we can see which tools people find useful and where they fail. This is limited, pseudonymous telemetry rather than anonymous data: events carry a random identifier for your visit, so events from one visit can be counted together.
How it works: the page sends events to our own server at /api/events. That server checks each event against a fixed list of permitted event names and properties, discards anything else, adds which of our sites it came from and your country as reported by our hosting provider, and forwards the result to Mixpanel, our analytics provider. No Mixpanel script or other third-party analytics script runs in your browser, and we tell Mixpanel not to record or look up your IP address.
The events can contain:
- which page you're on, the page you arrived on, and the website that referred you (its domain only)
- which of our tools you're using
- what happened: a page view, a file being chosen, an analysis or conversion starting, succeeding or failing, a download, or an option being changed
- the file extension (for example “pdf”), a file-size range (for example “1–5 MB”), and the file type detected from the contents (for example “pclxl”) or the kind of app that made it (for example “canva”)
- how long processing took, as a range
- short codes for the kinds of issues found or the category of an error, and simple counts
- your country, and a random identifier for your visit
Property names and values are restricted to short codes on both the page and our server, so free text can't travel with an event even by mistake.
Error reports
If our code fails, the page sends a short technical report to our own server: the error type and message produced by our code with any quoted text removed, a trimmed stack trace pointing at the part of our code that failed, which of our tools it was, the page address and your browser's user-agent string, plus your country from our hosting provider. These reports go to our hosting provider's logs, not to Mixpanel, and never contain your file or anything from it.
Cookies
We don't set cookies, and we don't use cross-site behavioural advertising trackers. For the length of your visit the page keeps a random visit identifier, the first page you opened and the referring site in your browser's session storage. It's cleared when you close the tab and isn't linked to you across visits or across our sites.
Who processes this information
- Cloudflare hosts the site and runs our server code. Like any web host it processes standard request data, including your IP address, to deliver pages and protect against abuse, under its own privacy policy.
- Mixpanel receives the sanitised usage events described above, without your IP address, and processes them as our analytics provider under its own privacy policy.
We don't use any other analytics or advertising services on this site.
How long it's kept
Error-report logs are short-lived: our hosting provider keeps them for a few days and they then expire automatically. Usage events are kept by our analytics provider for as long as our account's configured retention allows, and we keep them only while they're useful for understanding how the tools are used. We hold no other records about you, because there are no accounts.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- We don't use your files, or anything extracted from them, for advertising, profiling, AI training or model training.
- We don't send file names, document text, extracted content or raw files to our analytics provider, because they never leave your browser.
- We don't require an account, a sign-up or an email address to use the tools.
Your choices
You can block requests to /api/events with a content blocker, or turn off JavaScript, and the pages will still render. Clearing your browser's session storage, or closing the tab, removes the visit identifier.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy; the date above shows the current version.
